Making Irish stout What you’ll need 6 lbs. Amber Malt Extract 1 lb. Roasted Barley 1.5 lbs. Dark Dry Malt Extract (DME) 1 lb. Flaked Barley 2 oz. High Alpha Hops 3/4 cup Corn Sugar for bottling Irish Ale Yeast Coffee Grounds Cocoa Powder Making beer is like making tea, you boil water, add goodies and then let it sit. First put a big pot of water on the stove to boil. You’ll boil the ingredients for an hour. So as it’s coming to boil, start with the dry grains and barleys in cheese cloth socks, let them soak in there for 30 minutes or so. When the water is boiling stir in the extract and make sure not to let it settle on the bottom or it will burn. When you take out the grain bags put in half of the hops and boil for 30 minutes. This is also when you throw in a bit of chocolate and coffee to give it all a nice little aftertaste. After an hour take the pot off the heat and add the rest of the hops. Strain it all into a big sterilized bucket and add water until you’ve got five gallons. When it cools down throw some yeast in there and let it sit for a couple weeks before you stir in the bottling sugar and put it into bottles. Enjoy!
